CDO LGU fosters consumer welfare, protection

by Jan Albert K. Araña

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY (PIA)–The Cagayan de Oro City Local Government vows to uphold consumer welfare as the City Price Coordinating Council (CPPC) continues its partnership with national government agencies in conducting price monitoring activities for various commodities sold in the market.

With the recent success of the Joint Price Monitoring for Medicines with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)-Misamis Oriental Provincial Office and Department of Health (DOH)-10, the CDO CPCC aims to let the public know that they are vigilantly monitoring the prices in the market to protect all Kagay-anon consumers.

“Atoang ipakita sa publiko na ang gobyerno gatan-aw sa proteksyon sa mga consumers. Nia kita aron masiguro nato nga kung unsa ang gipalit sa atoang mga igsuon sa publiko mao jud ang quality and quantity na ilahang makuha ug nakasubay kini sa retail price na gimando sa gobyerno ug implementing agencies,” CDO CPCC Co-Chair Attorney Jose Edgardo Uy shared.

(We would like the public to see that the government is looking toward the protection of consumers. We are here to make sure that what the public has bought is of the right quality and quantity and is in line with the retail price that the government has mandated)

Meanwhile, City Councilor and Chair of the Trade and Commerce Committee George Goking said the city government has been successful for the past six years in making sure that the prices of goods sold in the city are within the suggested retail price.

“We can assure everyone nga bantayan jud nato ang mga presyo sa palitonon. Sa kapit-os sa panahon, the local government is on your side (We can assure everyone we are keeping an eye on the prices. In times of challenges, the local government is on your side),” Goking said.

The CDO-CPCC encourages everyone to always know the suggested retail prices (SRP) of goods, which are posted on the DTI website, so that people can find out if the items they are buying are within the SRP. They further expressed that their office is always open to assist consumers with their concerns and complaints. (JAKA/PIA-10/Misamis Oriental)
