Camiguin workers, union officers learn labor standards, safety

MAMBAJAO, Camiguin (PIA)–About 20 Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Integrated Livelihood Program (DILP) workers-beneficiaries and union officers of Europace Incorporated (Gaisano) were capacitated on General Labor Standards and Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) rules under the Worker’s Organization and Development Program (WODP) training at Villa Paraiso Resort and Apartelle, Poblacion, here.

DOLE-10 Camiguin Provincial Field Office (Cam PFO) Chief Arlyn Bael said the training, spearheaded by the PFO, taught the DILP workers-beneficiaries with current livelihood projects given by DOLE, on statutory benefits when they make their projects into community business enterprises.

Moreover, Bael said recently, the PFO has registered the labor union group under the Gaisano All Workers Alliance Trade Unions (AWATU), thus included its new officers in the said training.

Discussed also were the recent Wage Order numbers RX-21 for all workers in the private sector and RBX-DW-03 for domestic workers on the increase of minimum wage in the region.

Likewise, updates on OSH, specifically on COVID-19 IATF alert levels, informed the participants on the safety protocols in doing business in this recovery period of the pandemic.

Bael said at the end of the training, the participants are expected to develop their capabilities and perform their roles effectively and efficiently toward the promotion of trade unionism, workers’ empowerment and sound labor-management relations. Also, it educates them and their dependents on opportunities on self-development, growth, and become effective change agents in their organizations and personal life.

WODP serves as a facilitating mechanism in strengthening trade unions and other workers’ organizations. It provides an opportunity for systemic learning and growth aiming at greater productivity, prosperity and welfare to the employer, workers’ organization and its members and their dependents.
