Camiguin resumes F2F Lanzones Festival activities

CAMIGUIN (PIA)–Breaking the two-year hiatus of holding activities for Lanzones Festival due to coronavirus disease (COVID)-19, the provincial government here through Gov. Xavier Jesus Romualdo, officially announced the resumption of face-to-face activities, October 23-30, 2022.

“Karon balik na gyud sa face-to-face kay gusto gyud nato i-bring back kung unsa tong sa pre-pandemic but of course giklaro gyud ni, naa gihapon si health protocols,” Camiguin Provincial Tourism Officer Candice Dael said in Come Again sa Camiguin radio program.

(Now we will really return to holding the face-to-face activities because we really want to bring back the festival as to what it was during the pre-pandemic but of course it is clear that health protocols will still be observed)

Thus, Dael informed the contingents and participants of the Lanzones Festival 2022 that at least one COVID-19 booster dose is required to eligible individuals prior to joining any event.

To drum up the festival, the provincial government innovated activities and enhanced regular events that will be participated in by local government units, national line agencies, students, groups, business sector, and other stakeholders.

Dael said among the activities that tourists and locals can look forward to include the Kalanrakas sa Kabataan (municipal level), street dancing with eight contingents, grand parade on the first day of the festival, free lanzones eating, thanksgiving mass, and more.

Targeting to further boost the festival, the provincial government will also hold a lanzones decoration contest among the 58 barangays of the province.

“Atong giawhag una dinhi sa atong mga barangay, ato silang gihangyo nga naa sila’y area nga murag ‘instagrammable’ with lanzones nga decoration. Na’y criteria ana barangay contest na. Ang mga turista o kita maglibot pwede magpapicture sa ilang area,” Dael said.

(We urge our barangays, we are requesting them to have an ‘instagrammable’ area with lanzones decoration. There is a criteria for such and it is a contest. The tourists or even us, when we roam around, we can have our photos taken in the area)

They also urge the businesses, resorts, stores, and establishments to put up their lanzones-decorated areas as well as to play the Camiguin and Lanzones Festival jingles so the festival vibe can be felt throughout the province.

Tourists who are planning to visit and join the festival will just need their Clean Camiguin QR code with updated health declaration form at www.cleancamiguinqr.com, and their confirmed accommodation booking.

“Karon ang comeback nato sa Lanzones Festival agi pud ni siya as a celebration of hope—hope nga magpadayon gyud ni atong recovery and at the same time thanksgiving nga dili na gyud ing-ana kalala ang COVID,” Dael said.

(This is a comeback of the Lanzones Festival and this is a way to celebrate hope–hope that our recovery will continue and at the same time thanksgiving that COVID is no longer that detrimental). (RTP/PIA-10/Camiguin)
