Barangay workers in Lala town join VAWC forum

LALA, Lanao del Norte (PIA)–Barangay workers here lauded the efforts of the provincial government in educating them on various laws that protect abused women and children.

Nimfa Abrigondo of Brgy. Pendulonan said the forum helped her understand the rights to privacy of the victims. She said that the confidentiality of the case must be protected from the public.

“Dako kaayo mi pasalamat na giconduct ning training sa provincial office kabahin aning VAWC desk kay kadugang na pahibalo sa constituent nga ingon ani diay,” she said.

[We are very grateful that this training was conducted by the provincial office about the VAWC desk because it gives us additional knowledge in informing our constituents about cases.]

Through the forum, barangay workers also learned the salient features of Republic Act 9262 also known as Anti-violence Against Women and their Children (VAWC) Law, Anti-trafficking Law, Republic Act 9344 or Juvenile Justice and Welfare System, and the Role of Barangay Council for the Protection of Children.

The advocacy forum was conducted with the help of the Provincial Legal Office, Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office, Public Employment Service Office, and Lanao del Norte Police Provincial Office.

To recall, such forums were already conducted in Linamon and Maigo towns. Forums are also set to other towns this month. (LELA/PIA-10-Lanao del Norte)
