THE Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Cagayan de Oro City 1st District Engineering Office (CDOC 1st DEO) will commence the proposed installation of roadway lighting along the CDO-Airport-Bukidnon Road in Masterson Avenue, Barangay Upper Carmen, Cagayan de Oro City, starting in May 2025. This initiative aims to enhance road visibility and safety through clean, renewable energy.
The PHP 70-million project includes the installation of solar-powered streetlights and the construction of a center island extending from KarrJackson Automotive Shop-Uptown to Wilcon Depot. These improvements are expected to provide better illumination for motorists and pedestrians, particularly during nighttime, thereby reducing the risk of accidents on this busy highway.
During a meeting on April 24, 2025, DPWH CDOC 1st DEO District Engineer Ana Lee M. Manzano collaborated with the Cagayan de Oro City Water District (COWD), Roads and Traffic Administration (RTA), Cebu Landmasters Incorporated (CLI), and Xavier University Campus of the Future (XUCOF). The purpose of this collaboration was to coordinate public information regarding potential traffic inconveniences and ensure the project’s successful implementation.
Aligned with the “Bagong Pilipinas” brand of governance, which promotes a unified and transformative approach to public service, the project aims to address both traffic safety and environmental sustainability by improving road visibility while utilizing clean and renewable energy.
