8 schools in Camiguin benefit from OCD-10’s COVID kits

CAMIGUIN (PIA)–Aiding the expansion of limited face-to-face classes in the province, the Office of Civil Defense (OCD)-10 distributes COVID-19 essentials that will amount to about P479,000 to eight elementary schools, here.

School recipients include Catohugan Elementary School in Mahinog town, Panghiawan and Lawigan ES in Catarman, Subocan and Bacnit ES in Sagay, and Liong, Butay and Cantaan ES in Guinsiliban.

“Continuously, we provide PPEs for the municipalities as augmentation sa ilang (for their) NDRF [National Disaster Response Fund] so we have PPEs in our office in Cagayan de Oro. Ito naman ay para talaga sa mga bata (This one is really for the children),” OCD-10 Regional Director Antonio Sugarol said.

He added that initially, they provided the COVID-19 essentials to the first 10 selected schools to open the limited face-to-face classes that include six schools in Lanao del Norte, Bukidnon (3), and Misamis Oriental (1).

With the expansion of face-to-face classes, OCD-10 also stretched out their support and covered some schools but Sugarol said, “We need sub parameters. Ang gi-priority ang naa sa (we prioritized those in the) 5th and 6th class municipalities.”

Included in the package distributed per school are 15 gallons of alcohol, 15 disinfectants, 38 hygiene kits, 38 hand soaps, and 15 packs of KN95 face masks. The hygiene kits consist of soaps, towel, toothbrush, toothpaste, and napkins.

“Maraming salamat kasi narating nila ang lugar namin at nabigyan kami nitong mga materials para sa aming mga kabataan na magamit lalong-lalo na ngayon sa COVID-19. Ang target namo tagaan kay kining mga bata nga medyo lisod gyud makapalit aning mga kit,” said School Principal Divina Leah Abecia of Liong Elementary school.

(We are very thankful that they [OCD] have reached our area and we were given these materials for our children that are really useful during this time of COVID-19 pandemic. We target to give the kits to those children who could not afford to buy one)

OCD-10 also allocated the COVID-19 essentials to two elementary schools in Lanao del Norte that are also holding face-to-face classes. (RTP/PIA-10/Camiguin)
