132 households in CDO benefit from free housing

by Glacetene Kayl N. Daba

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY (PIA)–In an effort to address the city’s growing population and inadequate housing, Cagayan de Oro City Mayor Rolando A. Uy, in partnership with the National Housing Authority (NHA)-10, signed a memorandum of agreement and loan contract for 132 housing beneficiaries, March 9.

Lawyer Samuel E. Rollo, head of City Housing and Urban Development, says that the contract is meant to show that 132 duplex-style units will be built on 4.27 hectares in Barangay San Simon, Cagayan de Oro.

He said the construction of houses will automatically begin 300 days after the contract has been signed.

NHA-10 and the City Government of Cagayan de Oro will each contribute half of the project’s estimated cost of P50 million.

“Dako akong kalipay ug pagpasalamat nga nakig-uban mo ka namo, labi na sa paghatag sa kahigayonan nga hinay-hinay matagaan nato’g pagsulbad sa atong pagtinabangay nga matagaan ang mga katawhan sa ilang mga puluy-an,” Uy said.

(I am very happy and grateful that you are here with us today, especially for having the time to slowly help solve through our collaborative efforts that the people will be given houses to live in)

He also added that after the construction of the units, NHA-10, headed by Regional Manager Engr. Alfonso R. Borlagdan, also plans to establish another project in Dansolihon, Bukidnon, in hopes to alleviate the living situation of residents who are unable to afford proper housing.

In a separate interview, Uy said he can’t promise that all of his constituents will get free housing in his first three years in office, but he can promise that the local government will keep putting in place programs and initiatives that meet the needs of the public. (GKND/PIA-10)
