Philippine Quill Award of Excellence: Media Wise Communications/ Muse Books’ Caps sweep of the 2019 Awards Season | Billboard

September 4, 2019

On the March, a coffee table book on Jesuit ministry in the Philippines, scored its fourth major award this year – a Philippine Quill Award of Excellence in the Communications Skills under the Publications category during the 17th Philippine Quill Awards held 30 August 2019 at The Marriot, Newport City.      The award is the boutique publishing house’s fourth this year, adding to its Gold Anvil Award and Platinum Anvil Award from the Public Relations Society of the Philippines (PRSP) and Gold Quill (Award of Merit) from the prestigious International Association of Business Communicators (IABC).      Fr. Jose Arcilla, SJ was principal author of the book, which was edited by John Nery and published by Media Wise Communications. Manuel Paras Engwa and Ramoncito Ocampo Cruz were co-publishers.      On the March: The Jesuits in the Philippines since the Restoration chronicles the Jesuits’ ministry of education and the many aspects of their apostolate in the Philippines as they bring the faith to the most remote corners of the archipelago.      “This latest recognition affirms our commitment to use excellent communications to help the organization achieve its goals and make a difference in society, true to the Philippine Quill’s own aims,” said Cruz, who is also Media Wise president and CEO.      On the March is a fund-raising project for the Philippine Jesuit Aid Association (PJAA), which helps elderly, retired and infirm Jesuits. PJAA is headed by Fr. Jose Quilongquilong, S.J.      In January, On the March bagged its Platinum Anvil, a recognition given to entries that stand out among the Anvil Gold winners.      The PRSP cited the book for “recognizing the vital role of Jesuits in the country, the book highlights their mission and achievements, including their evangelical counsels of poverty, chastity, and obedience.”      The Anvil is the symbol of excellence in public relations, awarded to outstanding PR programs, tools and practitioners.      In June, Cruz flew to Vancouver to receive the book’s Gold Quill from San Francisco-based IABC at the 2019 IABC World Conference.      Only four other Filipino organizations have received the coveted international distinction.      The IABC awards committee said On the March earned the distinction for “exhibiting high-quality writing and superior production values.”      “The book is well-organized, consistent... from the beginning to end. It flows well. It’s clear that [Mediawise] brought together the right mix of interviewers, writers, designers and publishers to produce a high-quality communication vehicle,” said the committee in its citation.

Its huge—and still growing—the global fan base of this enormous entertainment platform can’t be ignored.  It is due to this why one of our major thrusts is to develop strategic partnerships with the best game developers and publishers in the world like Garena and Riot to make the game more accessible to everyone in the Philippines.  And with faster connectivity provided by Globe, gaming will be more exciting and competitions will be more challenging,” explains Ernest Cu, Globe President and CEO.      “Fan acceptance last year was truly overwhelming so we decided to change the format to celebrate LoL fans themselves and their huge contributions to the growth of the game in the country in particular and the acceptance of esports in general,” Nikko Acosta, Globe SVP for Content Business Group and Product Management, says.      Jamie Lewin, Head of Strategic Partnerships for SEA – Riot Games, reveals how  the Philippines has been one of the most high-performing markets in the region for Riot Games.       “Our focus in terms of gaming market development is really the Philippines, and we’re looking at how Filipinos will look at esports, especially now that it is included in the SEA Games Calendar this year. We’re truly excited about our prospects,” he adds.      Aside from the PHP 3.5 million+ in prizes up from grab across competitions and activities during  the two-day event, Conquerors Manila 2019 is also aiming to break last year’s attendance records where more than 16,000 fans trooped to watch the competitions live.      “We are honoured to have Globe as our partner in growing the esports audience in the Philippines. The Philippines remains one of the strongest and most competitive countries in the global esports arena. Our partnership with Globe is fully in line with our mission of building stronger gaming communities, and ensures that we continue to discover and develop more esports talents who can compete at the highest level” says Jason Ng, Garena’s Vice President of Strategic Partnerships.      Globe’s commitment to esports began through its groundbreaking LTE network that raised mobile and broadband gaming to the next level. This was followed by the company’s strategic partnerships with Riot, developer of League of Legends; Garena, Philippine publisher of League of Legends; and market leader Mineski, which led to the formation of Team Liyab, the company’s official esports team as well as a multi-platform gaming league called the Philippine Pro Gaming League (PPGL) .      For additional details, please visit www.conquerorsmanila2019.com.      For more about Globe Telecom, visit https://www.globe.com.ph.

UCPB, Pag-IBIG ink deal on digital services

August 30, 2019

THE UNITED Coconut Planters Bank (UCPB) has offered its digital platform to the Home Development Mutual Fund or Pag-IBIG Fund to help with electronic disbursements of loans and benefits to its 14 million members.      In a statement on Wednesday, the state-owned bank said the new UCPB Pag-IBIG e-Money card will provide members electronic access to cash loans, MP2 Savings dividends and other benefits from Pag-IBIG Fund.      UCPB and Pag-IBIG Fund recently signed a partnership agreement for this electronic disbursement service.      “We commit to deliver this electronic disbursement service in order to provide better service to Pag-IBIG Fund members and to provide everyone with a positive customer experience. This is in line with UCPB’s brand promise to deliver personal and proactive service to clients,” UCPB President and CEO Higinio O. Macadaeg, Jr. was quoted in the statement.      Pag-IBIG Fund CEO Acmad Rizaldy P. Moti said the e-Money card will provide the state-owned firm’s members with “faster, more secure and more convenient ways” to claim benefits.      In September 2018, UCPB also launched its Philippine Electronic Fund Transfer System and Operations Network (PESONet) service through its mobile banking application, allowing clients to transfer funds electronically.      PESONet was the first automated clearing house under the National Retail Payment System (NRPS) of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas.      The central bank earlier developed the NRPS framework to push for a “cash-lite” economy which promotes electronic financial transactions to move away from cash and checks.      Its target was to raise digital payments to 20% of the total transactions by next year.      UCPB’s Mr. Macadaeg in July resigned from his post for “personal reasons.” His resignation will take effect once accepted by President Rodrigo R. Duterte.      Mr. Macadaeg was named UCPB president in 2016.

12 years of environmental advocacy: Born to be Wild hosts renew contract with GMA Network

August 23, 2019

Born to be Wild hosts and expert veterinarians Doc Ferds Recio and Doc Nielsen Donato recently renewed their commitment to GMA Network and to the environment in a contract signing held last August 14.      Present during the signing were GMA Network Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Felipe L. Gozon, Senior Vice President for News and Public Affairs Marissa L. Flores, and Senior Assistant Vice President for Public Affairs Arlene Carnay.  Corporate Affairs and Communications Vice President Angela Javier Cruz, Corporate Communications Assistant Vice President Jojo Aquio, and Born to be Wild Senior Program Manager Angeli Atienza were also at the event.      Atty. Gozon lauded the program’s dedication to the environment, commending Doc Ferds and Doc Nielsen’s expertise as well. “Si Doc Ferds at si Doc Nielsen [ay] hindi lamang beterinaryo, kundi beteranong TV personalities. Sila lang ang merong ganitong program sa television sa atin at ang maka-labindalawang taon sila ay nagpapatunay na talagang top-rating ang kanilang program at maraming awards ang dalawang ‘yan,” he said.      The Born to be Wild hosts greatly appreciated having no less than Atty. Gozon gracing their contract signing with the Network.      “Born to Be Wild is a specialized show and there’s a niche for this type of show. There’s a need also for a program like this and ‘yun ang advocacy [namin]. Nagpapasalamat kami na binigyan [kami] ng pagkakataon na gumawa ng ganitong palabas na nagfo-focus sa environment natin,” Doc Nielsen shared.      “We’re very honored and very thankful,” said Doc Ferds. “12 years na ang Born to Be Wild. We want to keep on doing what we love to do. We are very happy that we are the ones chosen to represent ’yung advocacy ng GMA for the environment and wildlife, and to share our learnings with the people. The thrust of the program is to make it more palatable or mas madaling maintindihan ng mga kababayan natin,” he added.      The country’s pioneer environmental program, Born to be Wild premiered on the Kapuso Network in 2007 to provide environmental awareness to viewers of all ages. It tackles various topics on nature, wildlife, and the critical issues facing the environment in line with the network’s “Kapuso ng Kalikasan” advocacy. The GMA Public Affairs-produced show is also contributing to thousands of life-saving animal treatments and wildlife rescues over the years.      “When we started 12 years ago, ang mga hayop na nare-rescue namin at nako-cover namin [ay ‘yung mga] hinampas, pinalo or pinatay kasi they [people] don’t know what to do. Hindi nila alam kung ano ang gagawin kung sakaling may ahas na naligaw sa bahay nila or wildlife. Nowadays, sinasabi nila na hindi nila sinaktan kasi napanood daw nila sa Born to Be Wild na ganito pala ang dapat gawin. Ang sarap sa pakiramdam na nakatulong kami at nakapagbigay kami ng kaalaman at tumatak sa kaisipan ng tao at audience,” Doc Ferds shared.      Born to be Wild has been a consistent choice of the viewers that resulted to various local and international awards. It was named ASEAN Champion of Biodiversity and New York Festivals Finalist, among other accolades. Doc Ferds and Doc Nielsen were also awarded with the Gandingan ng Kalikasan citation by the University of the Philippines – Los Baños.      As it begins another year on air, Born to be Wild is committed to feature more stories about the environment and wild life.      “Maraming aabangan,” shares Doc Nielsen. “The stories and the advocacy about wildlife are never-ending. Kahit na paulit ulit namin itong pini-feature, yung hayop lang ang pare-pareho [pero] ‘yung stories nila iba-iba lalo na [dahil] the times are changing. Hindi lang scientific people ang dapat nakakaalam kundi pati na rin ang mga common na nanonood.”      Watch more stories on the environment and continued public service from the country’s leading nature and wildlife show Born to be Wild every Sunday, 9 am on GMA -7.
